Human Factors & NTS Programmes for Train Drivers

We have programmes tailored to the needs of drivers at all stages in their career
Trainee Drivers • PQAs • Experienced Drivers • Post Incident

Driver Support Programme

Arcadia Alive has been delivering Driver Support training since 2001 helping train drivers improve their Human Factors and Non-Technical Skills

The programme fills a real gap for drivers who are technically well trained, but are struggling with confidence and/or the mental after-effects of an incident or performance lapse.  It helps the driver’s understanding of what they are experiencing, the human factor issues involved, and the impact on their confidence levels.

Arcadia Alive has found that drivers who have had an incident often need support and guidance to enable them to understand what they have experienced, how it affects them, and what strategies they can use to restore the confidence and skills required to resume a professional driving career.

The programme is offered:

  • 1-2-1 over 2 days
  • 1-2-2 over 2 days
  • 1-2-4 over 4 days

Results

Our Human Factor and Non-Technical Skills Programmes have a proved track record of reducing incidents.  One client who had reported 13 SPADs (Signal Passed at Danger) within a six-month period put all their 137 drivers through the one of our programmes and had no reported SPADs in the next 4 years.  Analysis of incident rates with a client we have been working with for the last three years showed 93% of the Drivers remained incident free following attendance of our programmes.

  • We provide a series of programmes:
    • Human Factors for Managers
    • Human Factors for Driver Instructors
    • Driver Support Programme
    • PQA Drivers Programme

We then tracked the performance in incident and SPAD rates.  The red line on the graph showing where we started, with two years of data before and three years after.
